PFG with Denmark Meets with Danish Parliamentary Delegation

The members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Denmark, headed by Dr Branko Vujkovic, met today with the delegation of the European Affairs Committee of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Denmark, headed by Brigitte Klintskov Jerkel.

At the very beginning, the Head of the PFG with Denmark expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stressing that the diplomatic ties between the two nations date back to 1917 and while bilateral relations have had their ups and downs, the reason for today's meeting is mutual cooperation and pursuing common goals. He pointed out that Serbia and Denmark could cooperate in the fields of the green agenda, artificial intelligence, digitisation, as well as healthcare, in which Denmark has reached an extremely high level. He used the opportunity to point out the importance of Denmark's support of Serbia's European integration, especially the opening of Cluster 3, for which Serbia is well prepared. He added that the European Union must show that it wants Serbia in its midst and that this issue is of common interest to both sides, because only a safe, stable and successful Serbia guarantees the stability, security and success of the entire region, as well as the European Union. He said that for Serbia there is no other option but the European path, because Serbia is part of Europe, as is the entire Western Balkans. The officials also discussed the stability of the region and the European security policy, where Vujkovic pointed out that Serbia believes in peace and stability, but it cannot fully align its foreign policy security position with the European Union because it is still not a full member and also because for Serbia the integrity of its state borders is a "red line".

Jerkel and the delegation expressed condolences for the tragedy in Novi Sad and to the families of those killed in the accident. She pointed out that the Danish delegation’s goal is to help Serbia in the process of European integration in the sphere in which it lags behind the most, and thanked the hosts for the demonstrated willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The Danish delegation pointed out that the European Union is a project of peace and economic strengthening of the European continent, and the officials agreed that they should be focused on the future and goals that unite them, not divide them. The meeting also touched on environmental protection, interparliamentary cooperation, parliamentary multi-partyism and strengthening democracy. Dr Vujkovic said he expected a significantly more constructive approach from the representatives of the opposition in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to all issues of importance for the Serbian citizens.

At the end of the meeting, Jerkel pointed out that Denmark will preside over the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2025 and one of its goals will be EU enlargement. It will also host COSAP in this period, Jerkel added, and she is looking forward to meeting with colleagues from the National Assembly.

PFG members Stasa Stojanovic, Tatjana Stojkovic and Branislav Josifovic also took part in the meeting with the Danish delegation.
