National Assembly Takes Part in 127th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Quebec

The National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will take part in the organization’s 127th Assembly, to be held from 21 to 26 October 2012, in Quebec, Canada.


More than 1,300 participants, including nearly 670 MPs and Speakers of parliament from around the world, expected to attend the 127th IPU Assembly hosted by the Canadian Parliament, will tackle issues related to the protection of diversity to ensure peace in today’s polarized world, the issues of citizenship, identity, linguistic and cultural diversity in a globalized world, protection of religious diversity, as well as how to build peace in countries after conflict. A plan of action on ensuring gender parity within parliaments and their decision-making bodies is also expected to be adopted during the 127th Assembly.

The National Assembly’s standing delegation, led by the Head of the delegation and National Assembly Speaker MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, comprises delegation members Nada Kolundzija and Marija Obradovic, as well as the National Assembly Secretary General Jana Ljubicic.

At the margins of the 127th IPU Assembly, the National Assembly Speaker will have several bilateral meetings, among them with the parliament speakers of Canada, Indonesia, Japan, the Russian Federation, China, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa and Australia.

In the course of the 127th IPU Assembly, the secretaries general of the parliaments of IPU member states will hold meetings, which National Assembly Secretary General Jana Ljubicic will take part in.
