National Assembly Speaker in Official Visit to Kingdom of Sweden

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic, currently in an official one-day visit to the Kingdom of Sweden, was welcomed in front of the Swedish Parliament, Riksdag, in Stockholm by the Speaker of Parliament Andreas Norlen.

In addition to Speaker Brnabic, the Serbian delegation also includes National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs.

The National Assembly Speaker will have a tete-a-tete with Riksdag Speaker Andreas Norlen and will also meet with the MPs, members of the parliamentary bodies of OSCE and the Council of Europe. The Swedish Parliament is made up of 349 members and plays a key role in the passing of laws, adoption of the budget and appointment of the Prime Minister.

In the course of the day Ana Brnabic met with the Secretary General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) Kevin Casas-Zamora. As expected, Brnabic and the IDEA Secretary General will discuss Serbia’s European integration, the situation in the Western Balkans region and other geopolitical topics. IDEA is an intergovernmental organisation founded in 1995 with the explicit mandate to support sustainable democracy worldwide and has the status of observer in the United Nations. It gathers 35 member states and cooperates with over 60 countries and has more than 20 offices worldwide.

The National Assembly Speaker began her official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden with a tour of the seat of the Swedish National Audit Office and a meeting with Auditor General Christina Gellerbrant Hagberg. The institute, under the authority of the Parliament, analyses how the Government and public institutions use the financial resources and whether they contribute to the realisation of the set goals in line with the law, transparency and good governance.
