The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic took part in the IV Interparliamentary Cooperation Initiative: Western Balkans towards a common future, in Brussels which traditionally gathers numerous participants from the ranks of the European People's Party (EPP).
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia had the opportunity to speak at the panel entitled "Connecting the Dots: Energy Security and Decarbonisation in the Western Balkans" and tell the participants that the Republic of Serbia views its energy security as an inseparable part of its national security and an important prerequisite for continued economic development and overall progress. He stressed that, despite the current geopolitical challenges, Serbia has managed to preserve the continuity of energy supplies and remains vitally interested in the diversification of supply sources, additional investments in energy infrastructure, as well as in a speedier and more efficient development of capacities based on renewable supply sources.
Dr Orlic pointed out that the Republic of Serbia is implementing important energy connection projects, with the support of the EU, which ensure an even more stable and secure supply both for its citizens and for the economy.
Speaking about decarbonisation, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia confirmed Serbia’s commitment and proactive approach to this issue, recalling that the Government of the Republic of Serbia had recently adopted the Strategy for the period from 2023 to 2030 with projections to 2050, which opens up opportunities for additional progress, modernisation and increase in the domestic economy’s competitiveness. "In previous years, Serbia has become the engine of development of the entire region and this year we expect as much as 4.5 billion foreign investments. We will continue the with the robust development and strengthening of the economy in the future," said Dr Orlic.
On the sidelines of the Initiative, Dr Orlic had the opportunity to meet with members of the European Parliament, regional and European officials.
