National Assembly Speaker and IPU Secretary-General: Motivated and Ready for Further Cooperation
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today in Kigali, under the auspices of the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong.
At the very beginning of the meeting, the IPU Secretary-General stressed that the organisation’s cooperation of with Serbia is traditionally excellent and that the 141st IPU Assembly, held in Belgrade in 2019, was an example of very successful organisation. He expressed his belief that the new legislature of the Serbian Assembly would continue to, as before, cultivate excellent relations and cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Dr Orlic emphasised the National Assembly’s willingness to cooperate with the IPU which would further strengthen the relations between the member states. He thanked the Secretary-General for his personal contribution to the improvement of relations within the IPU.
"The organisation’s role is not to take sides, but to always express disagreement when international law is violated," said the Secretary-General adding that the so-called "Kosovo" is not and cannot become a member of the IPU, which Dr Orlic thanked him for. He pointed out that Serbia would continue to contribute its ideas and participate in the many activities of this and any future IPU Assembly.
