National Assembly Speaker Talks with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Rapporteur
National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic met today with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) rapporteur Samad Seyidov, currently in visit to Serbia.
Gojkovic said that Serbia wants to continue to fully cooperate with the PACE and supports the implementation of the recommendations aimed at further democratisation and strengthening of the rule of law.
The Serbian National Assembly Speaker thanked PACE for the continuous support of the democratic processes and briefed Seyidov on the adoption of reform laws including the set of media laws aimed at boosting the professionalism and independence of the media.
Gojkovic stressed that Serbia, within the Euro-integration process which is the country’s top priority, is particularly interested in the application of Council of Europe standards.
Gojkovic said that, with the progress it had achieved, Serbia has met the requisites needed to move on from regular monitoring to the post-monitoring stage, and Seyidov said that the Council of Europe wishes to help Serbia take that step forward.
Seyidov stressed that the Council of Europe and Serbia are “on the same page” when it comes to democratisation, respect of human rights and the rule of law.
The PACE rapporteur also asked about the National Assembly’s dynamics as regards the European integration processes.
