National Assembly Speaker Talks to Speaker of Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic, met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Jan Hamacek, in Prague, who said he fully supported Serbia’s road to Europe.
The National Assembly Speaker said that the European Commission’s progress report on Serbia is positive, that it shows the country has achieved progress and that she expects that the negotiations chapters will be opened by the end of the year. Gojkovic added that the European Commission’s report would be presented at the National Assembly tomorrow.
Hamacek stressed that the Czech Republic supports Serbia’s pro-European efforts, that Serbia should not be set impossible requirements and added that the Balkan countries should be given priority of EU integration.
Gojkovic and Hamacek also discussed the situation in the Middle East and participation of EU and Balkan citizens in the conflicts in the region, urging for cooperation in the resolution of the issue. Gojkovic informed Hamacek that today the Serbian MPs are discussing an amendment to the Criminal Code which introduces criminal sanctions against those who take part in armed conflicts abroad.
Gojkovic and Hamacek agreed that the relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic are traditionally good and friendly.
In the course of today’s visit to the Czech Republic, the National Assembly Speaker will also meet with Czech President Milos Zeman, Vice President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Premysl Sobotka and Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek.
