The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today, separately, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Manouchehr Mottaki and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.

In the meeting, the National Assembly Speaker and the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister deemed that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Iran are on the rise and that their development and improvement are in the countries’ mutual interest.

It was also estimated that, on the international level, the two countries advocate observance of international principles and standards and that they have similar attitudes towards important international issues.

Minister Mottaki stressed that Iran endorses peace and stability in both the Balkan region and the Near East. He stated that there is great potential for the improvement of cooperation between the two countries, above all in the field of economy.

Stressing the appreciation for Iran’s principled support of Serbia in the search for a solution to its most important internal issue, the preservation of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the traditional friendship between the two peoples, the National Assembly Speaker expressed an expectation that, as an important factor in international relations, Iran will continue to support Serbia.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic also stated that inter-parliamentary cooperation needs to be improved.

National Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor talked about the current political issues in Serbia and Slovenia’s experiences on its approach to the European Union. Prime Minister Pahor stressed that the consensus of all the political parties was the key moment in the approach, which enabled a speedier adoption of a large number of laws.

The National Assembly Speaker briefed the Slovenian Prime Minister on the National Assembly’s activities and pledged for strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
