National Assembly Speaker Talks to Friuli-Venezia Giulia Italian Region President
National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Debora Seracchiani who stressed that Italy wishes to assist Serbia’s progress toward Europe during its presidency of the European Union.
The National Assembly Speaker thanked Italy for its support of Serbia’s EU membership and the attitude that the Union was not tired of enlargement since supporting Serbia also means supporting the Western Balkans.
Seracchiani underlined the importance of the parliament’s role in the European Union accession process, adding that the region she was President of was interested in expanding economic cooperation with Serbia, to which end, three agreements are to be signed in the course of her visit.
Seracchiani conveyed the interest in additional investment into Serbia stating that Italy’s presidency of the Union would include work on furthering regional cooperation which would in turn facilitate the access to European funds and better use of the finances therein.
Seracchiani presented the National Assembly Speaker with the Programme of Italy’s presidency of the EU.
