Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received a delegation of the Finnish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee headed by the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, Pertti Salolainen.

The meeting centered around the Assembly’s activities regarding Serbia’s accession to the European Union, as well as cooperation between the parliaments of Finland and Serbia.

The head of the Finnish parliamentary delegation, Salolainen stressed that Finland is interested in a more explicit cooperation with Serbia, explaining that the goal of the Finnish parliamentary delegation’s visit is establishing the facts of the current overall situation in Serbia. Also, Salolainen briefed all present on the Finnish Parliament’s surveillance system over the executive organs.

Greeting the delegation members, the National Assembly Speaker pointed out that such inter-parliamentary meetings are extremely important for strengthening the political dialogue between Serbia and the European Union in view of the role parliaments have in reaching consensus on the most important issues for every country. Serbia is clearly determined to join the European Union, which is a priority of its foreign policy, and as an EU member Serbia will continue to foster good relations with other countries such as the USA, Russia, China, India and other.
