National Assembly Speaker Receives Vojvodina Assembly Speaker

Today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Speaker of the Assembly of Vojvodina, Sandor Egeresi.

Today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Speaker of the Assembly of Vojvodina, Sandor Egeresi.

As a continuation of the previously established cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Assembly of Vojvodina, various questions were raised at the meeting, concerning both the current cooperation and some new ideas aimed at furthering broader cooperation among the parliaments of the Western Balkans region.

Both sides expressed the wish that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia expand the activities on concluding a treaty on parliamentary cooperation with EU countries, as well as the Western Balkans region. The already signed treaty between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Hungarian parliament could prove very useful in that respect.

They particularly focused on the upcoming Western Balkans parliamentary speakers’ summit to be held in Budapest, on 18 September 2009.

At the proposal the Vojvodina Assembly Speaker made in June, it was agreed that achieving consensus on the safety in the region of South-Eastern Europe is essential and that it should be considered in depth so that it can be brought up for discussion among then parliamentary speakers. The Vojvodina Assembly Speaker, Mr. Egeresi shall report on this initiative at the meeting in Budapest on 18 September.

They also discussed the issue of Vojvodina Statute in principle.
