The UNICEF Director congratulated the Speaker on his election and expressed a wish to continue the excellent cooperation between the organisation and the Committee on the Rights of the Child, chaired by the Assembly Speaker. Ms. Reichenberg proposed that UNICEF representatives should organise a presentation for the members of the newly-created Committee on the Rights of the Child and brief them on the activities and existing cooperation with the Children’s Rights Working Group. The Assembly Speaker asked the UNICEF Director that the organisation take part in the Committee’s work and with its ideas and engagement contribute to a better role of the Parliament in the improvement of the rights of the child, the position of children in Serbia and harmonisation of laws with European legislation. The Speaker pointed out how important it is that, in addition to Government and Assembly representatives, UNICEF, the representatives of independent institutions and the expert public also take part in the drafting of laws concerning children and adolescents. In the course of the meeting, the officials also agreed on activities to be undertaken in cooperation with UNICEF.
