National Assembly Speaker Receives Portuguese European Movement Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today a delegation of the European Movement from Portugal, headed by university professor Armando Marques Guedes.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today a delegation of the European Movement from Portugal, headed by university professor Armando Marques Guedes. The three delegation members are currently participating in the roundtable titled “Portugal, experience and success in the European integration process”, organised by the European Movement in Serbia and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The Portuguese guests stressed that their country supports Serbia on its road of speedy accession to the European Union and is ready to assist. They pointed out the difficulties Portugal encountered in the process of joining the EU and how it dealt with them. However, they also pointed out a list of advantages and benefits their country reaped since entering the EU.

The National Assembly Speaker stressed that a renewed inter-parliamentary cooperation could be the basis for strengthening overall bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the sphere of economy. She pointed out the importance of this friendly country’s support to Serbia on the international level.

The creation of Serbian-Portuguese friendship society was initiated at the meeting, as well as talk about the need to sign a protocol on inter-university cooperation between the two countries.

The Portuguese delegation also included Joao Menezes Ferreira, advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and university professor Nuno Picara. Zivorad Kovacevic, president of the European Movement in Serbia also took part in the talks.
