The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mohammed Bouasria.

National Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic and Bouasria agreed that parliamentary diplomacy is a powerful means for strengthening bilateral cooperation, taking a common stand in various international organisations and exchanging opinions and experiences. The officials agreed that the parliamentarians can help raise the level of relations between the two countries, enabled by the long-standing traditionally friendly relations.

Morocco, as a country with improved relations with the EU, fully supports Serbia’s progress towards full membership in the European Union, stressed the Moroccan Embassy’s Chargé d'Affaires, for which the Speaker gave her most heartfelt thanks. The Speaker was particularly grateful for Morocco’s principled position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

The National Assembly Speaker was pleased to hear about the establishment of a friendship group with Serbia at the Moroccan parliament and informed the Moroccan Embassy’s Chargé d'Affaires, that the Serbian National Assembly also boasts a friendship group which is soon expected to elect a president.

At the meeting, the officials declared that the economic relations are on a rise urging that they receive special attention as they are the ones that can, according to the National Assembly Speaker, swiftly contribute to a better quality of life of the citizens of both countries. Two contracts relating to stimulation of investment and avoidance of double-taxation are currently being prepared, as is the activation of the agricultural agreement which would provide significant potential for cooperation between the two countries.

Bouasria delivered the invitation of the parliament speaker of the Kingdom of Morocco asking the National Assembly Speaker to visit Morocco, which she was happy to accept.
