The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today the Greek Ambassador, Christos Panagopoulos who congratulated her on being elected Speaker of the National Assembly. On the occasion, Ambassador Panagopoulos conveyed Greek Parliament Speaker, Dimitris Sioufas‘s personal message to the Speaker of the National Assembly, expressing the Greek people’s support for the Serbian people and best wishes for furthering the friendship and cooperation of the two countries.

The Greek Ambassador stressed that his country lends Serbia its full support on its road to European integrations and that in the upcoming period Serbia can expect a new wave of investment to be realised through 40 projects in various economic fields, which will contribute to the faster growth of Serbian economy.

He stated that Greece supports the majority of EU countries’ position concerning the importance of establishing EULEX mission in Kosovo-Metohija under UN Resolution 1244 and with Serbia’s consent.

The Speaker of the National Assembly informed the Greek Ambassador that the formation of the government marked the completion of constitution of Serbian state institutions adding that solving the Kosovo-Metohija issue, based on the UN Security Council’s decisions and under the norms of international law, as well as Serbia’s accession to the European Union are two important priorities in their further work.

Djukic-Dejanovic expressed her gratitude to the Greek state and people on their principled support of Serbia’s efforts to the preserve the country’s integrity and Kosovo-Metohija within it, stressing that no country can accept the seizure of a part of its territory.

The opening of the Greek Cultural Centre in Belgrade and furthering of the two countries’ total cooperation was also applauded.
