National Assembly Speaker Receives Egyptian Ambassador to Serbia

National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic received H.E. Aly Galal Abdelaziz Mohamed Bassiouny, Egyptian Ambassador.

Ambassador Bassiouny wished Speaker Stefanovic success and all the best, deeming the relations between the two countries friendly and historical and adding that Egypt is proud of them. Expanding the scope of the existing cooperation, parliamentary in particular, should keep the relationship on good course, noted Ambassador Bassiouny, stressing that he hopes parliamentary exchange would be continued in future, after Egypt has adopted the new Constitution and elected a new parliament.
Following the revolution in January last year, Egypt has opened a new page in history and is creating a new state founded on the rule of law, abiding by all the previously assumed national obligations, said Ambassador Bassiouny and informed Speaker Stefanovic on the current preparation and drafting of the Egyptian constitution which will, he hopes, will be presented before the Egyptian citizens. Bassiouny deemed that the revolution has not threatened the foundations of the state even though a thorough reform is necessary.
NARS Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic thanked the Egyptian Ambassador on his wishes, saying that the relations between the two countries have always been excellent due to the close relationship between the two people. Stefanovic added that the favourable climate should be exploited and the scope of the existing cooperation, after the revolution in Egypt and changes in Serbia, should be expanded, particularly as regards the economy.
The two countries are characterised by similar problems, although there was no revolution in Serbia, but Stefanovic believes some of the changes underway in Serbia have to be declared revolutionary.
They agreed that the relations, temporarily slowed down by the revolution in Egypt and the election process in Serbia, could be sped up in the upcoming period through frequent contact and consolidation of positions, and the relations between the two countries could once again be close and improved.
