National Assembly Speaker Receives Danish Ambassador to Serbia
The National Assembly Speaker, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Serbia, Mette Kjuel Nielsen, in a courtesy visit.
Thanking the Speaker for the reception, Ambassador Nielsen spoke positively about the scope of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries which will be continued in mid-March by a visit of the Chairman of the Danish Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee, Kofod, at the National Assembly’s invitation.
Speaker Stefanovic stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, declaring that the Serbian Parliament’s current legislature was working on strengthening its role, primarily via its control function of the executive, as well as stimulating all types of international cooperation, especially economic cooperation.
Ambassador Nielsen deemed that the Serbian Parliament has a historic opportunity to exercise its authority in society and that the progress in achieving its democratic potential is noticeable. The guest was especially interested in the procedures and parliamentary practice when passing legislation, about which Speaker Stefanovic informed her in detail.
