National Assembly Speaker Receives Cuban Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today the Cuban Ambassador Julio Cesar Cancho Ferrer with whom she spoke about the improvement of parliamentary and all other types of cooperation between the two friendly countries.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Ferrer brought up Cuban National Assembly Speaker’s the proposal that the parliaments of the two countries sign an agreement on furthering their cooperation. He also conveyed his invitation to the Serbian National Assembly Speaker to visit Cuba as Head an Assembly delegation.

The Ambassador said that the Cuban Government is planning significant economic projects which will include Serbia into the development of the oil industry and agriculture. It is also ready to transfer technologies into Serbia, above all, in the field of bioindustry, health, tourism and some other fields.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the National Assembly of Serbia for its understanding and support to his country expressed by the adoption of the Declaration on the necessity of ending the sanctions and isolation to the Republic of Cuba, at the end of 2007.

The Speaker of the National Assembly stressed that the friendship between the two nations, as well as good political and economic relations, must also be accompanied by a developed inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is in their mutual interest. Therefore it is necessary to improve it through deputy friendship groups, cooperation of Assembly Committees and exchange of delegations.

Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic pointed out that Serbia holds Cuba’s support in the United Nations in great esteem, as well as its principled positions concerning the importance of abiding by international law and keeping Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia.
