National Assembly Speaker Receives Bundestag Delegation
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with members of the Bundestag, Thomas Hacker and Josip Juratovic.
The central topic of the meeting was the European integration of the Republic of Serbia. The members of the Bundestag stressed that they sincerely want the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union and that they will continue to support that process.
Brnabic said that Serbia will continue to work dedicatedly on all reforms, primarily for the better living standards of its citizens, and reiterated that EU membership remains our country’s strategic foreign policy goal. She added that it would be extremely important for Serbia to open cluster 3 in the accession negotiations with the European Union as that would be a good signal for the continuation of our country’s European integration.
The National Assembly Speaker informed the members of the Bundestag about the activities of the working group for the implementation of ODIHR recommendations, and pointed out that it consists of members of the ruling majority, members of the opposition, and representatives of civil society. The fact that the working group is chaired by a representative of a civil society organisation was welcomed by the German guests as very positive.
Josip Juratovic said that they are happy with the visible positive changes since Brnabic became the Speaker of Parliament, and as a positive example he singled out dialogue as a process that is extremely important for every democratic society.
The meeting also touched on the work of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Federal Republic of Germany, chaired by MP Marija Zdravkovic.
