National Assembly Speaker Receives Belarus Ambassador

H.E. Belarus Ambassador Vladimir Chushev, congratulated his host Nebojsa Stefanovic on being elected Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly, expressing his belief that the election of Nebojsa Stefanovic for National Assembly Speaker would contribute to the development of the traditionally friendly relations between the two parliaments, in the interest of the two countries and for the benefit of the people. Ambassador Chushev declared the cooperation between the two countries, Serbia and Belarus, equally successful on the political, economic and cultural plane.

Chushev was also vastly pleased with the two countries’ rising commercial exchange and hoped that the two countries’ respective chambers of commerce would intensify the good cooperation they already enjoy.

Serbian National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic thanked his guest for his good wishes noting that, the traditionally good relations notwithstanding, there was still room for further strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation. Stefanovic added that in the upcoming period, besides strengthening its traditional role, the parliament would also work on opening paths of economic cooperation. He deemed it imperative for Serbia to improve the economic situation.

Speaking of the relations between the two parliaments, the National Assembly Speaker also mentioned the continuity of cooperation and the importance of the parliamentary friendship group with Belarus, the creation of which is pending. Stefanovic proposed an expansion of the parliament’s role to include stimulating economic cooperation between the two countries. He also advocated creating an ambient conducive to facilitating contact between entrepreneurs, as well as joint ventures onto third markets.

Finally, National Assembly Speaker MA Nebojsa Stefanovic stressed how much he appreciated the principled position of Belarus and its parliament as regards the resolution of disputed issues relating to Kosovo-Metohija and adherence to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.
