National Assembly Speaker Meets with UN Secretary General Special Representative and Head of UNMIK

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic today with the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the Head of UNMIK Caroline Ziadeh.

As this is Ziadeh's first meeting with Brnabic since she became the Speaker of Parliament, she pointed out that she hopes for good and open cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The Assembly Speaker emphasised the need to respect the human rights of Serbs and the non-Albanian population in Kosovo-Metohija and conveyed to Ziadeh her concern for the current situation on the ground. Brnabic reminded the guest the Community of Serb Municipalities is yet to be set up, although Pristina committed to it more than a decade ago.

Brnabic once again underlined Serbia's unswerving commitment to peace and stability in the entire region and added that Pristina with its unilateral acts violates UNSC Resolution 1244 and threatens the rights and security of Serbs and other non-Albanian population.

Brnabic said that Serbia highly values the work and mandate of the UN office in Belgrade, especially since it represents the main channel of communication with UNMIK, the United Nations mission in Kosovo-Metohija.
