National Assembly Speaker Meets with OSCE PA President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Pia Kauma.

Speaker Brnabic pointed out that Serbia highly values the role of the OSCE, its independent institutions and missions on the ground, as well as the help they provide to our country, and that it has always had excellent cooperation in various complex projects with this organization.

She added that her current focus is on the full implementation of all ODIHR recommendations, adding that a working group has been formed within the parliament that works on that implementation, in which civil society organizations also take active part. Speaker Ana Brnabic also said that our country supports the work of the OSCE Mission in Serbia and appreciates the support of the Mission, led by Ambassador Jan Braathu, with whom it has always had excellent cooperation. She emphasized the need to resolve issues of importance for the stability and progress of the Western Balkan region through dialogue and compromise, which should represent our common strength, not weakness, with mutual respect, in an equal and principled manner.

President Kauma said that the preservation of the rule of law, freedom of the media, strengthening of human and minority rights, promotion of tolerance and non-discrimination, as well as reforms of the security sector, are some of the main commitments of the organization she represents, and welcomed the determination of the Serbian Parliament Speaker that open issues in the region should be resolved through dialogue and compromise, as the greatest force in advocating the preservation of peace and stability.

The meeting in the National Assembly was attended by the Head of Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Serbia, Ambassador Jan Braathu, as well as members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
