National Assembly Speaker Meets with OSCE PA Observation Mission Representatives

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with representatives of the Observation Mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), arrived to observe the elections in Serbia on Sunday, 3 April 2022.


The National Assembly Speaker reminded the OSCE PA representatives that after the elections were officially called, in line with usual practice, he had invited the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the participating states, as well as other interested organizations, so the upcoming elections are to have a great many international observers.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the previous period saw a series of activities aimed at improving the electoral process, recommendations of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) were accepted and implemented and a Working Group for cooperation with the OSCE and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights was set up to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the recommendations for the improvement of the electoral process. He also spoke of the results of the inter-party dialogue with the representatives of the opposition in the presence of representatives of the European Parliament, adding that all the agreements reached in the process had been implemented.

The Special Co-ordinator of the OSCE Observation Mission Kyriakos Hadjiyianni and the head of the OSCE PA delegation Bryndis Haraldsdottir informed the National Assembly Speaker that the OSCE PA Observation Mission deployed to observe this year’s presidential, parliamentary and local elections comprises 80 members from 30 different states. Most of them will be stationed in Belgrade, while part will monitor the electoral process at polling stations in Novi Sad, Subotica, Nis and Valjevo. Hadjiyianni said that the OSCE Observation Mission, in cooperation with the observation missions of the OSCE PA and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, would have a briefing with all the participants of the electoral process to gain better insight into the activities of the parties and relevant institutions. He also said that the OSCE would present its report on the elections on Monday, 4 April 2022.
