National Assembly Speaker Meets with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Special Representative on Western Balkans

National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic received the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Special Representative on the Western Balkans Gerard Stoudmann in official visit at the beginning of his term of office as special representative in 2014 and 2015, for the duration of the Swiss and Serbian chairmanship of the OSCE.


Stoudmann presented the guidelines he is to follow for the duration of his two-year term of office via supporting regional processes to ensure overall stability and development. He congratulated the progress Serbia has made in the Euro-integration process and its successful reforms, declaring it the engine propelling the regional processes in the right direction.
National Assembly Speaker Dr Stefanovic spoke of Serbia’s intensive activities relating to the priorities of promoting regional relations. He endorsed the guidelines presented by Special Representative Stoudmann especially those relating to regional coordination and projects concentrated toward specific and measurable results of the cooperation, in view of the sensitivity of some of the current issues. Stefanovic added that the Republic of Serbia considers the economic dimension very important first and foremost for the improvement of the standard of living in the region.
The officials emphasised the importance of coordinated cooperation between the parliamentary dimension and intergovernmental activities within the OSCE, where the National Assembly gives its full contribution at the bilateral and multilateral level. Speaker Stefanovic and Special Representative Stoudmann agreed that they are fully prepared to cooperate on the further development and stability of the region.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Peter Burkhard.
