National Assembly Speaker Meets with Latin American and Caribbean Parliament President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today with the President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) Rolando Gonzalez Patricio.

Brnabic emphasized that Serbia fosters good and friendly relations with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and that we want to further improve bilateral relations, as well as cooperation within regional organisations in which Serbia has the status of observer.

She also expressed gratitude for the principled position of the majority of countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region, which respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and do not recognize the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo, consistently adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter.

Brnabic thanked Cuba for confirming its participation in the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027, which will be held in Belgrade, adding that that year we will also celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries.

The President of the Parlatino, Rolando Gonzalez Patricio, invited the National Assembly Speaker to take part in the Parliamentary Alliance Forum on Climate Change, which will be held in Panama in June.

He pointed out that this is an important international gathering that brings together representatives of parliaments from around the world to exchange experiences and encourage joint action in the field of climate policies, sustainable development and environmental protection. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of parliaments in creating public policies, enacting laws and monitoring their implementation, thereby enabling legislative bodies to make a concrete contribution to the global fight against climate change.

The officials agreed that they are satisfied with the level of parliamentary cooperation, especially after the signing of the Cooperation Protocol between the National Assembly and the Parlatino in 2015, the first of its kind with an institution in the region, and expressed their readiness to further strengthen institutional and economic relations through exchange of visits and concrete joint activities.
