National Assembly Speaker Meets with Holy See Secretary

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic met today with the Secretary of the Holy See for Relations with States, Dominique Mamberti and took the opportunity to thank the Holy See and Pope Francisco for their help and appeals for assistance for the victims of the floods in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I would like to thank you on the behalf of the National Assembly for your selfless help to Serbia during the recent floods”, said the National Assembly Speaker asking for continued assistance in the recovery of the flood-stricken areas.
Gojkovic said how pleased she was by the improvement of relations between Serbia and the Holy See and applauded the signing of the higher education agreement between Serbia and the Holy See whose application would be endorsed by the National Assembly.
Mamberti agreed that the relations between Serbia and the Holy See had improved in the past years, evidenced by the signing of the higher education agreement which would in turn, he said, boost cooperation in the spheres of culture and education.
The National Assembly Speaker also thanked the Holy See for its support of Serbia’s progress toward the European Union, and Mamberti said that the Holy See would continue to support the region’s aspirations toward the EU because EU accession is an important factor of stability in the region.
Mamberti stressed that the heritage and tradition of countries joining the EU contribute to the Union’s wealth.
