National Assembly Speaker Meets with French Parliamentary Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today with a delegation of French parliamentarians, rapporteurs of the Foreign Affairs Committee for Kosovo-Metohija, who were appointed by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly to provide parliamentary contribution to the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

Speaker Brnabic expressed her gratitude for the visit and the opportunity to exchange views with her guests on key issues of importance for regional stability and Serbia's European future. She particularly emphasised the importance of the opportunity to present the reality of the daily life of the Serbian and other non-Albanian population in Kosovo-Metohija, as well as the numerous security challenges, physical pressures and other forms of systemic coercion to which they are exposed. In addition, she thanked the French parliamentarians, as well as the Republic of France, for their continued support for the protection of the rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija and for their consistent insistence on the urgent formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, in accordance with existing agreements.

She stressed that membership in the European Union is a strategic priority of Serbia's foreign policy and thanked France for its willingness to provide support in the process of harmonising the domestic legal and institutional framework with European Union standards.

The delegation of the French National Assembly consisted of MPs Frederic Petit, Marine Hamelet, Pierre Pribetich and Jean-Louis Roumegas, who were appointed by the Foreign Affairs Committee with the task of providing parliamentary input to the process of normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina. Their mission is based on the existing engagement of the European Union within the framework of the dialogue conducted under the auspices of Brussels.
