Gojkovic and Désir discussed Serbia’s European integration and the parliament’s role in the progress toward the EU, the relations between Serbia and France and the challenges Europe faces due to the migrant crisis.

Gojkovic thanked Désir for the support France gives Serbia on the path to the EU saying she expected, once the progress report is presented, the first negotiation chapters to be opened before the end of the year.

Gojkovic and Désir agreed that the parliament plays a significant role in the European integration process both in the harmonisation of national legislation with the EU acquis and in the reform processes.

Désir said that France wants to stand by Serbia on its path to the European Union, adding that the dynamics of the Euro-integration process should be maintained and, in that context, reminded of the importance of continuing the reform process.

Désir said that in the previous period Serbia had demonstrated that it plays a key role in the regional stability, which it confirmed with its meetings with Albanian representatives, the recent meeting in Sarajevo and the talks with Pristina.

He expressed a high opinion of the relationship between the government and the citizens of Serbia in the response to the Europe-wide migrant crisis and said that the EU should help Serbia in the matter.
