National Assembly Speaker Meets with European Parliamentarians
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the co-chair of the of the EU - Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee Eduard Kukan and European parliamentarians Igor Soltes and Tanja Fajon, currently in visit to Serbia.
The European parliamentarians wanted to know about the work dynamics and operating procedures of the National Assembly, stressing the importance of cooperation with the civil society and independent institutions, and presented their experiences in these areas. The European parliamentarians asked about the position of women in the Parliament and Gojkovic said that now women make up one third of the parliament and are heading eight of the Serbian Assembly’s committees.
Kukan said he appreciated Serbia’s dedication to European accession adding that the visit is very useful for the European parliamentarians as they can learn first-hand about Serbia’s progress in the European integration process.
The European parliamentarians are visiting Belgrade as part of the third meeting of the EU - Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.
