National Assembly Speaker Meets with Equatoguinean President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met with the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, currently in official visit to Serbia.

Pointing out that the long-standing friendship between Serbia and Equatorial Guinea dates back to the time of the Non-Aligned Movement, the officials opined that this friendship represents a solid basis for further cooperation.

Cooperation between Serbia and Equatorial Guinea will be further strengthened by the formation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in the near future, which will contribute to the improvement of mutual bilateral relations, Brnabic said. This reflects the commitment of both sides to the development of stronger political, economic and cultural ties, as well as to strengthening the exchange of experiences to their mutual benefit.

Speaker Brnabic thanked Equatorial Guinea for its consistent support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for providing help to our country in the United Nations when passing key resolutions.

She also emphasised the commitment to improving the political dialogue, as well as creating the foundation for more intensive economic cooperation, including in areas such as agriculture, trade and digitalisation, as well as strengthening cultural and educational cooperation.

Speaker Brnabic also thanked Equatorial Guinea supporting Serbia's candidacy for the organisation of EXPO 2027, stressing that events of this kind open the door to new forms of partnership.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus highlighted the importance of the exchange of experiences between the two countries, especially in these geopolitically challenging times. In this context, exchanges of visits between the two countries’ officials play a key role in strengthening friendly relations.

Ragus emphasized the importance of the "World in Serbia" educational program, through which students from Equatorial Guinea attend school in our country. "I believe that in the fields of education, economy and technological development, we have huge chances to further improve relations," Ragus pointed out.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo thanked Serbia for its support and friendship, emphasising the importance of restoring and strengthening the relations between the two countries. "Equatorial Guinea respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia. A secure alliance brings benefits to both parties," said President Mbasogo.

At the end of the meeting, it was concluded that Serbia and Equatorial Guinea will continue to further strengthen mutual relations through continuous cooperation, which will be implemented through joint initiatives and projects. Both sides expressed their determination to improve political dialogue, expand economic ties and strengthen parliamentary cooperation, which will contribute to the stability and progress of bilateral relations.
