National Assembly Speaker Meets with Egyptian Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdel Aati.

On the occasion, the officials affirmed the intensive dynamics and quality of bilateral relations and their accelerated development in the past decade, thanks to the personal dedication and contribution of the two presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The Parliament Speaker stressed that Serbia remains firmly committed to improving and deepening the overall cooperation between the two countries, adding that she is convinced that parliamentary institutions will, through cooperation, contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral relations. She said that she was pleased we had the opportunity to host the President of the Egyptian Senate Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razeq in early November of last year, as well as the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Hanafi Ali Jabali in 2023, and stressed that this gave a significant signal to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, adding that mutual visits would continue.

Brnabic also highlighted the importance of adopting the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership during the visit of the Egyptian President to Serbia, as well as the signing of the Free Trade Agreement and other bilateral agreements during the visit of the Serbian President to Egypt. She said that the Bill on Confirmation of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries will soon be on the parliamentary agenda.

Minister Abdel Aati emphasised that economic cooperation between Serbia and Egypt is good and developed and that they are committed to strengthening it, adding that a joint venture on the African continent would benefit both sides.

He congratulated Serbia on hosting the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade, saying that the Arab Republic of Egypt has confirmed its participation in the event and that he hoped that as many Egyptian businessmen as possible would recognise its importance.

The meeting was also attended by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Snezana Paunovic.
