National Assembly Speaker Meets Georgian Prime Minister in Tbilisi

As part of his official visit to Georgia at the invitation of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, with whom he discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries, intensification of overall cooperation and European integration.

The Georgian Prime Minister pointed out that the two countries share the same views and jointly represent and respect international law. "Our position regarding e so-called "Kosovo" is known and will not change. In this sense, we provide strong support to Serbia", said Garibashvili, which the Assembly Speaker thanked him for.

Speaking about the two countries’ European integration, the National Assembly Speaker said that Georgia can count on Serbia’s support in this matter. In this regard, he pointed to the progress that our country has achieved in practically all areas concerning the rule of law, as well as the adoption of a set of new judicial laws, rounding off the reform in this area begun with the amendment of the Constitution last year. However, as he added, Republic of Serbia’s European integration remains heavily burdened by the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. "Every day we are faced with Pristina’s unilateral moves, as well as Albin Kurti's brazen refusal to finally, after a decade of waiting, form the Community of Serb Municipalities. We demand that the signed agreements be implemented without delay and that the safety of our people in Kosovo-Metohija be guaranteed, because these are elementary prerequisites for any further dialogue”, said the National Assembly Speaker, adding that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s serious and responsible attitude toward the dialogue is now openly recognised by EU and US officials.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Georgia Dubravka Filipovski.
