National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic on Danube Day, 29 June

“The 11th Danube Day gives us the chance to reaffirm and highlight the importance of protecting the river Danube and the rational use of water resources, as well as the need to foster stronger ties between the countries of the Danube region, especially in the spheres of economy, environmentalism, tourism, which has been recognised in the Danube Strategy – the EU project Serbia takes active part in.

For Serbia and other non-EU states it is especially significant that they have the chance to take part in the Strategy of the EU macro-region both at the level of the legislative and the executive power. The National Assembly, which last week hosted the 3rd Conference of Danube Parliamentarians, will continue to contribute to the Danube Strategy through active projects and seeking new types of cooperation. Exchange of experiences within the Conference of Danube Parliamentarians, especially relating to road infrastructure, flood prevention and defence, as well as the development of economic cooperation in the region is very important for the establishment of even better relations between the countries the Danube flows through.”
