Ambassador Bergant congratulated the National Assembly Speaker on taking office adding that he hoped he would continue to contribute to the development of cooperation between Slovenia and Serbia in his new position, as he did previously as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He conveyed the congratulations of the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Igor Zorcic and his readiness to continue the development of parliamentary cooperation with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia. National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic thanked the Ambassador pointing out that he would continue to work on improving bilateral relations in his new position and that he would try to further the rapprochement between Serbia and Slovenia through parliamentary cooperation. He informed his guest that a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Slovenia had been formed in the National Assembly, which opens up opportunities for the continuation of this type of cooperation.

The officials agreed that the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two parliaments signed in 2018, represents a good basis for more intensive cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, especially in the process of Serbia’s European integration.

They exchanged views on the health situation and the measures employed by the governments of the two countries in the fight against the coronavirus.

After the stabilization of health conditions, the officials expressed readiness for an exchange of visits at the level of heads of parliament, parliamentary friendship groups and parliamentary committees.
