The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Serbia Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahad Al-Thani.
Ambassador Al-Thani conveyed the congratulations of the Speaker of the Advisory Council of the State of Qatar Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud on the appointment of Ivica Dacic as Speaker of the National Assembly, with the assurance that he would continue to contribute to the development of cooperation between Serbia and Qatar as he did in the position of chief of diplomacy.
National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic said that the bilateral relations between the two countries are following an upward trend, adding that in his new post he would try to further strengthen overall relations through the improvement of parliamentary cooperation.
Ambassador Al-Thani agreed that political relations are at a high level adding that the two countries should work on that strengthening other forms of cooperation. He informed that the Qatari Advisory Council has a Qatar-Serbia parliamentary friendship group and reminded his host of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Doha in 2019 between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Qatar’s Advisory Council, which is a good basis to foster closer cooperation between the two parliaments.
The officials agreed that it is necessary to intensify contacts as soon as the conditions allow it and to that end to organise visits of heads of parliament as well as parliamentary friendship groups after the stabilization of health conditions,.
Ambassador Al-Thani delivered a letter from Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, thanking Ivica Dacic for his work on strengthening relations between the two countries during his tenure as Foreign Minister.
