National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi.

In a cordial and friendly conversation, the two former colleagues noted that relations between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China are traditionally good and have, despite all obstacles, reached a completely new level in recent years.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic took the opportunity to once again express his immense gratitude to the People's Republic of China for the aid sent to the people of Serbia during the previous year because of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The selfless help China continues to provide is real proof of the strategic partnership and friendship between our two countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi thanked his former colleague for the warm welcome, saying that his visit today is another confirmation of the friendship between the two countries. He thanked National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic for his contribution to the development of good relations between Serbia and China in his previous post, especially emphasising that Ivica Dacic was the first Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit China in February last year at the beginning of the pandemic, clearly showing its support and solidarity in a challenging and difficult moment for China.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic thanked China for its principled support in preserving Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also stressed that Serbia is interested in further intensifying high-level political dialogue, as well as improving co-operation in various fields.

Speaking of the parliaments’ work, the officials opined that bilateral parliamentary relations between the two countries are gaining new momentum through a comprehensive strategic partnership. The MPs cooperate very successfully through the respective parliamentary friendship groups and the work of the Commission for Cooperation between the Serbian National Assembly and China’s National People's Congress.

State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed the greetings of the Chairman of the National People's Congress Li Zhanshu to National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic.

The Assembly Speaker said that he and his Chinese counterpart Li Zhanshu are trying to make an additional contribution to the development of parliamentary cooperation, as evidenced by their online meetings. He hopes that they would soon have the opportunity to exchange visits.

The meeting was also attended by National Assembly deputy speakers Vladimir Orlic and Radovan Tvrdisic, Head of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia Parliamentary Group Branimir Jovanovic and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People's Republic of China Zarko Obradovic.
