The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, joined today the promotion of project “Action, Education – Healthy Nation” launched by the Association of renal and home dialysis patients – Renalis.

Addressing the gathered citizens and members of Renalis at Belgrade city centre, the Speaker stated that the National Assembly had recently adopted two very important laws, Law on Public Health and Law on Organ Transplantation. She added that it is the National Assembly’s obligation to monitor the implementation of these laws and constantly remind the public of the significance of donorship and how important it is to stay healthy. Donation grants patients a chance for a new life, and an organ donor can save as many as five lives. She said that one must overcome personal fears regarding organ donation and set a personal example so that the majority of the population would learn how to stay healthy and how to help others become healthy. The Speaker announced that on Friday, 9 October, she shall become an organ donor and sign a donor card.

Renalis launched its project “Action, Education – Healthy Nation” in October, the month when Europe and the world commemorate organ donation. The project is being realised under the patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia.
