National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic with Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic is currently in official visit to at the invitation of Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover.

In an open and substantive conversation, the officials affirmed the excellent, friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, which, they opined, are at the highest level in modern history. They expressed their belief that the overall close and dynamic cooperation would continue. "We enjoy excellent cooperation in all areas, and our meeting today is, I am convinced, just one in a series of steps towards its additional strengthening and improvement in the future," said Dr Orlic.

The National Assembly Speaker took the opportunity to thank Hungary for the support it provides to Serbia on its European path, as well as for the clear political support expressed at every opportunity. The Hungarian Parliament Speaker said that the support for Serbia’s European integration is undisputable, that it is a position that would not change. "Serbia’s achievements and results in the integration process have already earned it its place among the members of the European Union. The European Union needs Serbia, our country needs it as well, and we hope that you will join as soon as possible. Your membership will mean the beginning of an era of an even higher level of strategic cooperation between Serbia and Hungary," said Kover.

Dr Orlic took the opportunity to thank the Hungarian Parliament Speaker for his attitude towards the members of the Serbian national minority in Hungary, whose position, as they themselves point out, is better than ever before. In the course of the meeting, the officials applauded the cooperation on the implementation of strategically important infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway, as well as the joint engagement on the issue of energy security. "I am sure that there many more important and great successes await us, ones we will achieve together in the future for our two countries and our two peoples," said the National Assembly Speaker.

The parliament speakers expressed their willingness to further strengthen parliamentary relations, both through personal advocacy and the continuation of dynamic exchanges of visits at all levels, as well as through the further intensification of the already extremely rich interparliamentary activities and the cooperation of the two parliaments’ friendship groups and working bodies. The Hungarian Parliament Speaker invited Dr Orlic to take part in the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Southeast European Countries, which will be held in Budapest in November, and Dr Orlic took the opportunity to invite the Hungarian Parliament Speaker to visit Serbia, which he gladly accepted.

The meeting in Budapest was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs, as well as the Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary Milan Radin, who confirmed their determination to continue cooperation and intensive contacts with colleagues from the Hungarian Parliament.
