The study visit for the National Assembly staff was organised as part of the two parliaments’ Memorandum of Understanding signed by their respective parliament speakers on 13 February 2012 and chiefly aiming to introduce the National Assembly staff to the work of the European Programs Implementation Service (EPIS) of the Hellenic Parliament and inform them about the process of programming, coordinating, monitoring and implementing programmes and projects financed by EU funds.

Secretary General Jana Ljubicic said that the realisation of the study visit yet again proves the excellent cooperation between the two parliaments within the ongoing year-and-a-half Twinning project, extended to last till 1 November 2014. Secretary General Jana Ljubicic restated the importance of continued cooperation between the two parliaments at the political and technical level, across all sectors and via continuous reciprocal support, aimed at an efficient completion of the membership talks and acceleration of the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession process. Briefing her host on the National Assembly’s plan and programme for the imminent future, Secretary General Ljubicic informed him of the important reform laws which will soon be presented before the National Assembly. At the same time, the officials discussed the initiative for a bilateral visit of the National Assembly Speaker Maja Ljubicic to the Hellenic Parliament in September.

Noting their mutual pleasure at the successful realisation of the Twinning project according to project plan and timeframe, the two parliamentary secretaries general agreed that there is room to further the exchange of cooperation experiences and best practices both at the political and technical level.
