National Assembly Secretary General Meets With Representatives of Fund for Political Excellence

At a meeting held at the National Assembly House by the Secretary General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Veljko Odalovic, the representatives of the Fund for Political Excellence elaborated two projects which should improve the work of the National Assembly, its working bodies and the deputies.

Project Dialogue for Energy in South-Eastern Europe implemented by the Fund in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation and a network of Council or Europe schools for political education from the Balkans is aimed at keeping the deputies better informed and enabling them to participate in debates on energy and energy efficiency laws. In addition, they aim to improve the dialogue between members of parliament and other political elements, the executive government, civil society and non-governmental organisations, as well as share knowledge and experience between the parliamentarians of South-Eastern Europe. According to the Fund representatives, the participants would be members of seven assembly committees dealing with energy and the project will take place between April and November 2011, via three seminars and a regional conference.

Project Partnership for Gender and Human Security, which will be implemented with the support of the European Union, is aimed at strengthening gender equality in public policies and activities on a more consistent implementation of gender equality laws. Members of seven assembly committees dealing with gender equality issues and the improvement of the position of women in society shall take part in the realisation of the project which is planned to include three seminars and several study visits between March and November.

The deputies endorsed both projects of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence and opined that they would contribute to a higher efficiency of the National Assembly’s work and particularly strengthening its control and supervisory role.

The meeting was attended by deputies: Gordana Comic, Meho Omerovic, Milorad Buha, Aleksandra Jerkov, Jovan Nesovic, Bojana Stanojevic, Oleana Papuga and Elizabet Paunovic.
