National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic Meets with Slovak Parliamentary Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic met at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Slovak Parliament’s friendship group with the Western Balkan countries, headed by Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the PFG Jana Lassakova.

Greeting the Slovak delegation on the behalf of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker Arsic said how pleased he was by the long-standing friendly relations between the Serbian and Slovak people.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker thanked Slovakia for the support it offers Serbia on the path to the European Union, and especially for its non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

Speaking about economic cooperation prospects, Deputy Speaker Arsic highlighted the importance of Slovak investments into Serbia, especially in the fields of energy and renewable resources, opining that the economic cooperation should be developed further, in accordance with both countries’ potentials.

Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the PFG with the Western Balkan countries Jana Lassakova opined that the Serbian Government's reforms are very important and offered to share her country's experience of the EU talks. She emphasised the significance of the pre-accession talks for the EU accession process.

The officials also discussed the National Assembly's legislative activity and the status of the national minorities, where Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic briefed the Slovak delegation on the reform laws passed by the National Assembly and the status of the national minorities and their rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.

To the question about the political situation in the Western Balkans, Veroljub Arsic said that Serbia is committed to addressing all the vital problems of its citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs or nationality, and is making a great effort to avoid the destabilisation of relations in the Western Balkans.

The officials agreed that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Slovakia are excellent, but that there is still room to improve the two countries’ parliamentary relations.
