National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ragus Meets with Israeli Ambassador to Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Serbia Avivit Bar-Ilan to discuss current developments in Israel and further improvement of interparliamentary cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Dragan Markovic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Israel MA Milovan Drecun, and member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Dr Ugljesa Mrdic.

The Israeli Ambassador briefed the hosts on the current situation, in the context of achieving a framework for a ceasefire and negotiations with Hamas, and emphasised that, if everything is implemented as agreed, Hamas will release all captured hostages.

Marina Ragus expressed her satisfaction that the process of releasing the hostages has finally begun, following the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October. "We expect we will have the opportunity to celebrate that one hostage, who is also a Serbian citizen, the young man Alon Ohel, will be released," Ragus said.

In their conversation, the MPs emphasised Serbia's support for the friendly people of Israel, with whom our people shared a common fate in World War II. They said that Serbia has always advocated a policy peace and stability, and expressed their wish for all the hostages to be returned alive to their families and for peace to prevail in the region.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the importance of further improving interparliamentary cooperation, through an exchange of visits by parliamentary delegations.
