National Assembly Deputy Speaker Igor Becic Meets with French Parliamentary Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker MA Igor Becic met, at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the French National Assembly’s France-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by Martine Carrillon-Couvreur.

Greeting the French parliamentary delegation on the behalf of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker Becic said he was very pleased by the excellent bilateral relations between Serbia and France and the intensive political dialogue evidenced by the exchange of visits between the two countries’ highest dignitaries.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker thanked France for its support of Serbia’s European integration and the opening of the first negotiations chapters. He informed the guests about the reforms conducted by the Serbian Government, particularly those concerning the judiciary and the fight against crime and corruption and stressed that Serbia is dedicated to maintaining dialogue with Pristina. To that end, Becic highlighted the importance of the support France offers to the preservation of stability and security in Kosovo-Metohija through the participation French soldiers in the EULEX and KFOR peace missions.

The Head of the France-Serbia PFG Martine Carrillon-Couvreur applauded Serbia’s efforts on its path to the European Union and in conducting reforms aimed at the modernisation of its society, in which, she said, Serbia has the full support of France.

The PFG Head opined that Serbia and France should work together to maintain security and contribute to the fight against terrorism, and Deputy Speaker Becic said that he would personally urge that the bills enabling the participation of Serbian doctors in peace missions in crisis areas find their way to the National Assembly agenda as soon as possible.

The officials were pleased by the increased pace of parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and France, opining that there is room to boost economic relations between the two countries.
