National Assembly Deputy Speaker Elvira Kovacs Meets with German Embassy Political Secretary

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Elvira Kovacs met with the political secretary of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Hannah Elten, who was interested in the procedures and operation of the parliament and working bodies of the National Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Elvira Kovacs informed the guest about the procedure concerning the convocation of a plenary session, submission of amendments to bills and the work of parliamentary bodies. She stressed that discussions concerning the implementation of the recommendations of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights are still underway and that she hopes, once the Government of the Republic of Serbia is formed, the National Assembly will start working in its full capacity.

As the Chairperson of the European Integration Committee, Elvira Kovacs stressed that it is planned to have a series of sessions outside of the National Assembly seat so as to better inform the citizens outside the capital about the documents of the European Union and the influx of foreign investments. She went on to say that environmental protection is currently a big issue in terms of alignment with European legislation.

One of the topics discussed in the meeting was also the status of national minorities in Vojvodina, which Deputy Speaker Kovacs declared to be at an enviable level, adding that it would be further improved through investment into infrastructure which will ensure that many of the people living in Vojvodina and working in Hungary remain in the motherland, as well as facilitate their daily lives.
