National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek Meets with Saudi Arabian Delegation

At the sidelines of the 14th Sarajevo Business Forum, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Edin Djerlek and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Saudi Arabia and the Countries of the Middle East met with the delegation of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of MP Edin Numanovic.

The Saudi Arabian delegation, which consisted of senior representatives of key Saudi institutions responsible for foreign trade policy, investment, digitalisation, halal standards, export promotion, and agriculture, was headed by His Excellency Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Sakran, Deputy Governor of the Foreign Trade Authority.

At the meeting, Deputy Speaker Djerlek said that Serbia was the second fastest growing economy in Europe in 2024, despite global challenges, and that it achieved a record inflow of direct foreign investment. He also stressed that Serbia had received an investment grade credit rating for the first time, which represents a strong signal to international investors about the country's macroeconomic stability and fiscal responsibility.

The Deputy Speaker also pointed to continued investments in infrastructure, digital transformation and education, as well as the fact that Belgrade will host the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027, which confirms the country’s growing international reputation.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the conditions that Serbia offers to foreign investors, and Djerlek called on Saudi investors to recognise the numerous development opportunities and take advantage of the investment climate Serbia offers.

The officials discussed specific areas of potential cooperation, including agro-industry, green energy, advanced technologies, halal certification, export branding and digital innovation. They also highlighted the importance of institutional cooperation, not only at the government level, but also between parliaments, chambers of commerce and other relevant institutions.

The meeting was deemed a significant step towards strengthening strategic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on mutual respect, common interests and a vision of long-term partnership.
