National Assembly Delegation Welcomes Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee Delegation

National Assembly delegation headed by Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic met today with a delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference headed by Vice-Chairperson Li Bin, currently in official visit to Serbia.


Arsic highlighted the strategic cooperation and great friendship between the two countries, opining that high-tier visits like this one contribute to an even stronger cooperation across the board. He added that the overall bilateral relations, understanding and mutual trust between China and Serbia have resulted in a comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The cooperation between the two countries is at a historic high thanks to their presidents. Arsic agreed with Chinese President Xi Jinping that the two countries’ traditional friendship is indestructible and Prime Minister Li Keqiang that the relationship between Serbia and China is built on eternal and true friendship.
Arsic opined that the political dialogue has been bolstered by reciprocal high-tier visits such as President Vucic’s visits to China, Chinese President’s visit to Serbia and the frequent visits of diplomatic delegations.

The National Council for Coordination of Cooperation with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, comprising nine Serbian ministers, testifies to the importance Serbia attributes to its cooperation with China, said the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.

Arsic said that Serbia is also dedicated to parliamentary diplomacy with China. The Parliamentary Friendship Group with China boasts 105 MPs, Arsic said adding that the Parliament had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Serbian Assembly and the Chinese National People's Congress as well as a Protocol on the establishment of a joint parliamentary commission.

Arsic also took the opportunity to thank China for the principled stance and support in international forums as regards Kosovo-Metohija, voting against Kosovo-Metohija’s UNESCO and INTERPOL bids, and added he was sure the support would continue. Arsic went on to say that Serbia respects China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and will not meddle in its internal issues.

The Deputy Speaker then mentioned China’s 6 billion investments into Serbia such as the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway, part of the Belt and Road project, Smederevo steel mill and investments in Bor and Zrenjanin.

Li Bin said that the purpose of her visit was to deepen the cooperation and friendship between the two countries and strengthen the overall strategic partnership. Li said that the signing of the abovementioned agreement three years ago was both historic and has already yielded positive results. The Vice-Chairperson agreed that Serbia and China should work together on matters of mutual interest and importance. She thanked Serbia for its support and stated that China in turn supports Serbia’s efforts in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Of the many joint projects, Li highlighted the Belt and Road initiative, adding that development and prosperity is in both countries interest.

Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic also took part is the meeting as the Head of the PFG with China, stressing that though the PFG is made up of both majority and opposition MPs with differing views, they all share a true love of China and its people.

The National Assembly delegation also comprised MPs Dr Darko Laketic, Chairman of the Health and Family Committee, Snezana B. Petrovic, Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy, and Mirko Krlic, Chairman of the Culture and Information Committee.
