National Assembly Delegation Pays Study Visit to Slovenian Parliament

A National Assembly delegation, comprising MPs Vesna Kovac, Zoran Babic, Dubravka Filipovski, Milorad Mijatovic, Stefana Miladinovic and Milan Lapcevic, Deputy Secretary General Mladen Mladenovic, Assistant Secretary General Mirjana Nedeljkovic and National Assembly Service staff, paid a study visit to the Slovenian Parliament, from 11 to 14 November 2013.

The study visit is part of project Strengthening the Oversight Role and Transparency of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, conducted in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

In the course of the visit, the members of the National Assembly delegation met with the chair and members of the Republic of Slovenia Budget Oversight Committee, chair and members of the Committee on Finance and Monetary Policy, President of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, Slovenian Parliament’s Accounting Office staff and financial experts.

The delegation members were briefed on the functioning of the Slovenian public spending oversight portal and its benefits to the MPs and citizens. They also exchanged experiences with their hosts relating to the planning, drafting and control of the spending of the republic and parliamentary budget, the work of the internal audit and the State Audit Institution.

At the end of the visit, the delegation members concluded that the introduction of a public spending oversight portal in the Republic of Serbia would prove extremely important for the strengthening of the National Assembly’s oversight role. They also concluded that the work experience of other institutions of the Republic of Slovenia responsible for finance, as well as the Slovenian Parliament’s working bodies and internal auditor would prove useful for the National Assembly.

The cost of the study visit was covered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
