National Assembly Delegation Meets with Delegation of US House of Representatives

In the meeting at the National Assembly House, the delegation of the US House of Representatives commended the Serbian government for the results it had achieved in strengthening the rule of law.


On the behalf of the National Assembly, the delegation of the US House of Representatives was greeted by Parliament Deputy Speaker MA Igor Becic.
He thanked the US for its support of Serbia’s European integration process and the assistance it sent to help the recovery after the May floods in Serbia.
The National Assembly’s delegation briefed the members of the US House of Representatives on the reform processes, the careful attention with which the protection of information and communication systems is handled, and the series of reform and financial laws the National Assembly had recently passed. They also spoke of the efforts invested into combating organized crime and corruption and trafficking in humans, strengthening the rule of law and prospects for creating an environment more conducive to investment into Serbia and speedier economic growth.
The Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Petar Petrovic and the Chairman of the Security Services Control Committee Momir Stojanovic also spoke at the meeting. They informed the US delegation about the scope of their respective committees and the results achieved in the fields of judiciary and security services control.
The participants were also addressed by the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the US Biljana Pantic-Pilja who said that it was one of the largest at the National Assembly. Congressman Bob Goodlatte said that the US Congress has a Serbian caucus, adding that he hoped for more intensive cooperation in the near future.
On the behalf of the National Assembly’s Economic Caucus the participants of the meeting were addressed by Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic who hoped to establish strong ties and cooperation with the economic caucus at the US Congress.
The congressional delegation, headed by the Chairman of the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte and Congressman Jerrold Nadler, comprised congressmen Jim Sensenbrenner, Tom Marino, Blake Farenthold, Sheila Jackson Lee, Steve Cohen and Hank Johnson.
