The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic is currently in a two-day visit to Madrid at the invitation of the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies Jose Bono Martinez.

The Serbian delegation, comprising, in addition to the Assembly Speaker, Judita Popovic, NARS Deputy Speaker and Nikola Lazic, head of the parliamentary Friendship Group with Spain, was received by the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies. Djukic-Dejanovic and Bono agreed that no effort should be spared in opening up new ways of cooperation that would doubtlessly improve the general state of relations between the two countries, as well as the friendship between the two nations.

Djukic-Dejanovic was grateful for the principled position of support for Serbia’s efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, within the borders recognised by the UN. The officials agreed that observing the basic principles of international law and UN Charter are an imperative in the modern world.

“During its chairmanship of the EU, Spain has greatly contributed to expediting the resolution of a number of extremely important issues on the EU’s agenda”, stressed the Serbian Parliament Speaker adding that Serbia was extremely grateful for the fact that the process of ratification of the SAA had started during the Spanish chairmanship. Bono stated that he will not only be Serbia’s ally in the SAA implementation, but go beyond it.

The Serbian delegation attended part of a sitting of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.
