NARS Speaker Receives OSCE Secretary General

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received OSCE Secretary General Mark Perrin de Brichambaut, visiting our country on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, as well as due to the preparations for the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Belgrade from 6 to 10 July of this year.

The NARS Speaker drew the guests’ attention to the two laws from the so-called European agenda – the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Election of Deputies which, inter alia, regulates the issue of “blank resignations” and the debate on the amendments to which is to be continued tomorrow, and the Bill on Financing of Political Activities on which a debate was organised gathering experts, non-governmental and civil sector. “We expect the Government to soon forward us the Property and Restitution Bills and I hope that we shall have them in assembly procedure as soon as possible”, said the NARS Speaker. Djukic-Dejanovic emphasised the importance of the current cooperation and joint activities of the National Assembly and the OSCE Mission to Serbia which have contributed to a higher efficiency and transparency of the National Assembly’s work.

Brichambaut expressed pleasure at the fact that Serbia is to host the Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and certainty that the meeting will be very successful. The OSCE representatives stressed that the legislative activities so far are a huge step forward and that they are open for further cooperation and assistance. The OSCE Secretary General gave an especially positive evaluation of the steps undertaken at Belgrade’s initiative which have contributed to the improvement of cooperation and normalization of life in the region.
